So, you were always a big fan of jailbreaking your iDevice, but you also wanted to try all the nice new features of the mother of iOS updates, iOS6? Well, it’s been hard, choosing between the two of those, but we’ve got news for you: Now, you can have the best of both worlds: iOS6, the greatest iOS update ever, and jailbreak it! Yes indeed ladies and gentleman, we present to you, the iOS6 RedSn0w Jailbreak!
Since a couple of days, RedSn0w has released their massive update, RedSn0w 0.9.15b1, which gives you the ability to jailbreak iOS6, and install Cydia! Automatically that is, not manually… like previous iOS 6 jailbreaks required you to do. This RedSn0W 0.9.15b1 update jailbreaks your iPhone just like you would expect it to. Let’s go over this step by step!

But first: Do remember, jailbreaking your iDevice is at your own risk! We are not telling you you should jailbreak it, we are just showing you how you can do it. Jailbreaking your iDevice will void the waranty on your device. Do this at your own risk.

Now, this RedSn0w jailbreak for iOS6 works on the following devices:

iPhone 4 GSM,
iPhone 4 CDMA
iPhone 3GS
iPad WIFI
iPad CDMA
iPad GSM
iPod Touch 1,2
iPod Touch 3,4

Which is pretty much, the devices that are able to run iOS6, of course…

The zipfile needed for the jailbreak can be downloaded here:
Redsn0w 0.9.15b1: Mac.zip
Redsn0w 0.9.15b1: Windows.zip

Step 1: Download RedSn0w 0.9.15b1 (See above) to your computer, and open it.

Step 2: Put your iOS device into DFU mode. Don’t know how to get it in DFU mode? Check out this page: What is DFU mode and how do I get it?

Step 3: Click on Jailbreak, you will see a few items being loaded, and then be presented with “Please select your options”. Make sure “Install Cydia” is checked. Then click next. This will start the actual jailbreak. This will take just about 5 minutes.

Step 4: When this process is done you will be taken back to the Home screen.

Step 5: Place your iDevice back into DFU mode. Don’t know how to get it in DFU mode? Check out this page: What is DFU mode and how do I get it?

Step 6: On your computer, go back to the main page of RedSn0w. Select Extras > “Just boot”. This will tethered boot your device, and should show you Cydia on your Home screen once your idevice is booted.

Step 7: Congratulations, you have just jailbroken your iDevice. All that is left now, is to launch Cydia, and enjoy the fun!
