The new entrant to Apple’s world of big cats- the OS X (read as OS Ten) ‘Mountain Lion’ is finally here. The latest launch in the Mac OS X series- the Mountain Lion is bundled with some cool new features while maintaining the old classy OS X look. The tenth release of Mac Operating system from Apple has more than 250 new features to offer and is available for preview (developers preview version which may not be as stable as the final version to come) and is expected to arrive this summer (2012 Q1) for a price of $29.99 and can be easily downloaded from Mac Apple store.
The new OS X ‘Mountain Lion’ is reminiscence to the old Apple Mac Operating systems in looks and built, however the new OS X promises to provide more than 250 new features with it. On close examination one can find that some of these features are already provided by iPad and iOS. In other words, the new Mountain Lion Os is a hybrid of Mac, iPhone and iPad. Let us review some of these new features in the new OS X Mountain Lion.
iMessage is one new application incorporated in OS X. With iMessages already available for iPhone and iPad and doing quite well, it has now been included in the Mac too. Now you can send unlimited messages to your iPhone, iPad or even an another Mac quite easily while working on your computer. The iMessage is bundled with other services like photo, video and chat which you can easily share with other Apple devices. Also ‘Notes’, ‘Reminders’ and ‘Notification Center’ which were quite hit with iPhone and iPad are now also available for Mac and you can access them anytime anywhere through the automatic iCloud services.
The Mountain Lion comes with a better integrated iCloud service with more options which automatically synchronizes your data and makes accessing your data in calendar, reminders, notes and many other services quite easy. The iCloud service comes free with the Mountain Lion and also helps you to store multimedia content and makes it available on any of your Mac device. Also if you buy any song via iTune in your iPhone, then it will be automatically downloaded in your Mac too.
One of the great features of Mountain Lion is the “Resume” feature, which automatically re-opens the applications where you left it last time. It’s just like keeping a bookmarker in a page and reading the book from exactly where you left the last night. It also has an interesting new feature called the Gatekeeper which checks and restricts unauthorized applications and thereby providing more security to your Mac device.
Also with the Mountain Lion in your Mac book, you will not lose it again. Thanks to a new feature called the ‘Find my Mac’, you can locate your Mac device in case it is lost, you just have to login to the iCloud from any of your Apple device and you can easily locate the missing Mac on a map (provided your Mac is connected to internet). Also if it is not connected to internet while you were searching for it, you will get an email once it is connected.
Besides these features, there are many other cool new feature provided with the Mountain Lion OS about which you can find more information in Apple’s official website-
