5 Ways to Design a Website in a Rush

What do you do when someone needed a website yesterday? Follow these 5 tips to help you build a quality site in a hurry.

Although most of us would like to think that we put as much care, forethought, and strategizing into our websites as possible, let’s be real: sometimes we just like to design a website in a rush. Why? Who knows – maybe you’re a designer who’s under a deadline. Maybe you’re an online marketer who’s testing out a new idea. Whatever the problem is, chances are that at some point, you’ll need to design a website this way in the future.

The good news is that these websites don’t have to be so downright awful. If you keep a few tips and strategies in mind, you might just succeed in making your website a thing of glory. Hey, we’re not promising the world – but you can design a website in a rush if you apply yourself. Here are five ways to do just that.

1. Sit Down & Plan it Out
Even though it might seem like you can least afford this step in a rush, you’d be surprise at how much speed a little bit of planning can lend to the rest of the project. Heck, you might even be surprised to see that you took less time than you thought you would simply because you did so much visualization of the website beforehand. In fact, you might just be tempted to utilize this strategy for the websites you don’t have to design in a rush. Either way, just know that a little planning can go a long way.

2. Rely on Old Techniques
The key here is not to try to re-invent the wheel. You don’t want to be trying out a new type of coding on your website when you’re in a rush. Instead, you want to use the skills you could utilize in your sleep if you had to. Imagine what it was like when you first designed your own website and then try to keep things that simple. That’s really all you have to do. It won’t take much more than that, especially if you’ve already mastered this skill. It will save you time.

3. Lower your Standards
I know, I know – blasphemy! How dare you lower your standards? Websites are your art, your expression, your creative message to the universe!

Okay, maybe you don’t feel quite that way, but if you’re protesting about lowering your standards, consider this: maybe it’s having too high of standards that’s jilting you creatively and not allowing your ideal workflow to come out. Just start designing and worry about the quality later.

4. Know Where You’re Going
Some of this relies on tip #1. It’s important to know where you’re going so that if you get off on some designing tangent, you have an anchor to bring you back to reality. You don’t want to create a sidebar only to realize that you never needed one in the first place, for example. That’s not only frustration, but it’s a plain waste of time.

5. Relax!
Nothing stilts your creativity like worrying too much. So relax and let the site come out on its own. You just may surprise yourself.
